What Amery Publishing Is (and Is Not)

What Amery Publishing Is (and Is Not)

Following on from my earlier post about why Amery Publishing exists, I want to take a moment to be very clear about how it actually operates in practice.

Clarity matters. Especially in publishing.

There is a lot of noise in this industry, and too many blurred lines. One of the core aims of Amery Publishing is to remove uncertainty rather than add to it.

What Amery Publishing is

Amery Publishing is being built as a boutique, author-first publishing house, combined with a private author community, focused on learning, transparency, and long-term development.

In practical terms, that means:

  • Authors are encouraged to understand how publishing works, not kept at arm’s length from it

  • Decisions, processes, and limitations are explained honestly

  • Progress is prioritised over speed

  • Learning is valued as much as outcome

This is a place for authors who want to grow in confidence and understanding, not simply hand responsibility to someone else.

What Amery Publishing is not

Just as importantly, there are some things Amery Publishing will never be.

  • This is not a vanity press

  • This is not a pay-to-publish shortcut

  • This is not a guarantee of publication

Membership does not buy approval, influence, or special treatment. Publishing decisions are made carefully and ethically, based on suitability and standards, not payment.

There will be no pressure selling, no hype culture, and no false promises.

Boundaries matter here

Amery Publishing is intentionally structured to feel calm, safe, and professional.

That means:

No unsolicited selling to other members

  • No private messages used for pitching or promotion

  • No competitive posturing or “guru” behaviour

  • Respect for different writing speeds, backgrounds, and goals

This is a collaborative environment, not a marketplace.

Who this will suit

Amery Publishing is for authors who:

  • Take their writing seriously, regardless of where they are in their journey

  • Value honesty over reassurance

  • Want to understand publishing rather than be sold to

  • Prefer community and shared learning over competition

It will not suit everyone, and that is deliberate.

Building something meaningful takes time. This space is designed for those who are comfortable with that idea.

More detail about how Amery Publishing will develop will be shared gradually, as systems are tested and refined. For now, my focus is on building this properly, not quickly.

Thank you for being here at the beginning.
